In the past few weeks, the Extradition Bill has engendered a mix of cares and concerns in society. REDA welcomes the decision of the Government to suspend the legislative amendment exercise as the suspension will allow Hong Kong to refocus our energy on meeting the challenges arising from the current capricious global political-economic environment.
Locally, there are also urgent socio-economic issues to be tackled, including increasing land and housing supply, building our smart city, promoting innovation and technology, developing mainland and overseas markets, and seeking opportunities for our young people, just to name a few, all of which require a genuine spirit of partnership in the community. The public apologies offered by the Government and various officials have provided the foundation for the reconstruction of trust and harmony, through which society may join hands once again to strive for a brighter future for Hong Kong.
